The most deadly and silent psychological problems these days are eating disorders like anorexia. In most cases, the urge to look skinny is caused by anorexia. This disorder is real subtle and it shatters our confidence and happiness from the inside. This is why we must break all these myths. Regardless of age or gender, looking skinny is the motto of most people these days. It is partly caused by the notion that looking skinny lowers the risk of lifestyle diseases. It's as if looking skinny is the ultimate key to improving one's health. While it's good to have lower fat levels, taking it too far is not a very good idea at all. According to a recent study, being thin doesn't mean you are not fat. Those of us who love to maintain their weight through diet rather that exercise have major deposits of internal fat. This means that what you look on the outside doesn't protect you from lifestyle diseases. We need a change of attitude. In other words, looking lean doesn't mean you are immune to diabetes, hypertension or any other diseases for that matter. In fact, almost all studies show that thin people without much of a history with exercises are full of health problems. The Medias contribute to this frenzy as well. They convince us that we are too fat (even when we're completely healthy). Guilt, lack of self-esteem, anxiety, fear of embarrassment, and several other psycho-social disorders are associated with this pointless frenzy. It goes to show that looking skinny is not the key to being fit. Also, looking skinny is not a health problem as well. What we need to focus on is the right amount of exercise and nutrition. Our body needs fat to an extent, depriving yourself of fat would only make matters worse.
