It's a bit childish, but the endless queue in front of the dentist's section in a multi-specialty hospital I visited earlier made me think about brushing. It turns out that we are making all sorts of excuses for rushing out of brushing; and do you know what sort of dental problems it cause? It is very embarrassing. A recent study shows that brushing and flossing are the two tasks that must not be omitted from one's daily routine. The study also shows that regular brushing and flossing decreases the gingival bleeding by 38 percent. On the contrary, people who brush too much can also get bad breath and bleeding gums as well. Tooth decay and periodontal diseases are some of the most common problems that comes with poor oral hygiene. Also, we might go for health checkups in general; but when it comes to oral hygiene, most people forget the need for routine visits to the dentist's place. Plaque is another common dental problem; and it is proven that flossing can prevent it. Still, surveys show that most of us have plaque and tooth decay. Another embarrassing fact is that at least one-third of adult tooth loss is caused by this childish ignorance. I find that all these super-flexible tooth brushes and chemical tooth wash stuff are not doing any good for us. In fact, if you use an inappropriate brush, it can damage the tooth enamel and irritates gums. The hectic lifestyle we live tempts us to eat all those junk foods. What happens is that we forget to brush after all crunching all that crap. It's a ridiculous fact that I chose to ignore till I read this study. The facts are simple; everything we eat, drink, chew or smoke affects our oral hygiene, and we can choose to ignore this simple task. But sooner or later, you'll be sorry. Do you want to look like those guys who hate having to open their mouth before others? It's up to us. Even educated people are ignoring these simple things; it may be the lifestyle trends that we follow these days. It's up to us!
